Short Row Peppermint Pattern

You'll need worsted weight 100% cotton yarn in red and white (or any colors you like)
a crochet hook to match the yarn
needle
(You really don't need any batting, but if you want to, add that.)

short row pinwheel pattern: make two

20 ch with red yarn
row 1: sc, ch1, turn
row 2: sc to the last stitch, turn (19)
row 3: make no chain stitch, but jump over the first sc, and sc to each after that (18)
row 4: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (17)
row 5: sc
row 6: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (15)
row 7: sc
row 8: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (13)
row 9: sc
row 10: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (11)
row 11: sc
row 12: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (9)
row 13: sc
row 14: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (7)
row 15: sc
row 16: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (5)
row 17: sc
row 18: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (3)
row 19: sc2,
row 20: sc1, finish and cut the red yarn.

With white, sc 20, "picking up stitches" from the "serrated" edge of the red segment, starting from the sharp point.
row 2: sc to the last stitch, turn (19)
row 3: make no chain stitch, but jump over the first sc, and sc to each after that (18)
row 4: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (17)
row 5: sc
row 6: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (15)
row 7: sc
row 8: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (13)
row 9: sc
row 10: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (11)
row 11: sc
row 12: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (9)
row 13: sc
row 14: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (7)
row 15: sc
row 16: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (5)
row 17: sc
row 18: ch1, sc to the last 2 stitches, turn (3)
row 19: sc2
row 20: sc1, finish and cut the white yarn.

With red, sc 20, "picking up stitches" from the "serrated" edge of the white segment.
Continue this way until you have a circle (repeat 3 times with both red and white, so there will be four red segments and 4 white ones.)

Leave a long tail of the white yarn last time you cut it, and stitch the last white segment and the first red segment together. (You can also crochet the segments together.)
Weave in all ends.
Block the peppermints, cut batting to size (slightly smaller than a "peppermint", if you want to use it, sandwich this between the "peppermints", with joining seam inside, and crochet together with sc's
