Biting through the list...

Right now I'm making several things at a time...

I started knitting the lacy cardigan, but found it boring, so I started knitting a lacy shawl. Besides, it's a mystery shawl that started a month ago, and everyone else has already made it, so it's a bit hurry... *blush*
(And if that wasn't enough lace, I'm dreaming of these Shui Kuen Kozinski's lace shawls... so BEAUTIFUL!!!)

I am also making a birthday surprise to my sister Vappuleena :-) (Halauksia, jos luet tämän :-) Etpäs tiedä minkä värinen - tai kokoinen tai näköinen tai miten se on tehty... :-D)

Then I visited the Yahoo! crochet group I'm in, and they have a wonderful list of projects... so I printed about 50 pages of "want to do"... There was this wonderful "table top" - a big doily/small tablecloth for Mothers' Day... really pretty. I hope it's easier than the leafy tablecloth I crocheted just a couple of months ago... that was... Pheew!

The I found this: Kaya Wool - Aran Cabled Shrug. I don't know what it would look like on me, but the first impression was "stunning!"

What Ket did?

I went to Stockholm with my sisters to buy some yarn... I really need a cardigan, and there's lovely patterns in KnitScene fall 2006. So I bought some. Very nice and soft Merino wool in fascinating reddish-orangish color.

I am currently knitting the horseshoe cardi from MagKnits... I can't find MagKnits anywhere, so I fear it's gone... :-(
This one is of pink cotton I got from my sister :-) I knit very loose though...

I'm also crocheting a crazy quilt as my hubby calls it - free crochet afghan - of blue and brown cotton-acrylic mix yarns, half with some sort of effect. Not my flavor, but the colors go well together and I'd hate to throw yarn away. Hubby loves the afghan and I don't think it's bad either, so - another success.

I have also been crocheting and knitting dishcloths of all the pure, thick cotton yarn I have. Most of it is leftovers from Little Bear's blankie, so the color combinations are... hmm... interesting LOL My dear hubby said "YOU use those!"

I think that's it for now. I haven't been active in any of my groups nor in the internet. Life isn't too easy right now. I'd really want to write, but don't seem to get my thumb out of... err.... TMI LOL

I am very disappointed...

I joined an Easter basket swap. Sounded like a great thing.

I decided to make it up to two previous swap pals I had failed, so I made three Easter packages.

I sent them on 10th of March, so that they will be sure to arrive before Good Friday.
On 14th I got the first "It has arrived" message.
The second package arrived to New Zealand perfectly straight before Easter.
I don't know what has happened to the third package - the "real" Easter basket swap package. I don't know if it has arrived, or got lost in mail or what. I haven't heard anything from my swap pal.

In fact, my swap pal hasn't "said" one word to me since the end of February, after she gave me her preferences list and address...
I don't know if she has received my list and addy. She hasn't responded to any of my mails.
They haven't bounced, so they went somewhere.
I posted them as replies to her mails, so I assume the email addy was correct and she has got them.
But I can only assume.

The worst thing here is that my swap pal is the organizer of the swap...
She thanks a lot of people in her blog for sending her a hostess gift. I'm not mentioned.

I asked in that blog entry if she has received my package. She hasn't answered.

She has announced another swap.

I am bitter, angry, seriously p'd off... I feel like I was being used, and this person is a person I used to look up upon, as a role model in the Internet crafting community.

I would have full understanding if she lost my mail address, but the thing is that I have left comments on her blog, and those comments have a link to my blog. All she would need to do to get in contact with me was to leave a comment in my blog.

And, frankly, the swap organizer shouldn't loose the swap participants' addies. Sure, accidents happen, but she has organized swaps before and will organize swaps in the future as well.

I would have full understanding if she was late with the package, because I think she's moving right now... Only if she told me what is happening. It's the least one can do, communicate with one's swap pal...

And how will I get any... compensation, sympathy, apologies or something? I was let down by the organizer herself! If she doesn't think it's important enough to communicate with me during the swap, why would she care about finding out if people have been let down and organize swap fairies?
I was the fairy in the swap I arranged.

I am not only bitter and angry. I'm also sad and disappointed... I was really looking forward an Easter surprise...

I'm also confused and worried, because I know "things" happen and I don't know what has happened here.

But this will be the last swap I'll ever participate in my life. It's fun to get packages, but this is not fun at all.

P.S. After I had written this post and left a message in her blog telling her that I don't find the absence of communication and swap amusing, and that if she is so stressed she says she is, maybe she shouldn't be organizing swaps, she suddenly found my email address and managed to get through not only one (9th of April) but two mails - something she said she hadn't been able to do previously >:-> - telling me that I am "extremely pushy and demanding", "unhappy person" and drama queen, that I have no business in telling her how to manage her life, that it's my own fault that I haven't got anything (not even other mails but these "oh-poor-me-bad-you" mails), that her life is so horrrrrrribly difficult right now and how she doesn't "need this negativity" - as if I do - and how mean I am, spoiling her blogging and swapping experience with my nasty comments and unlikable behavior...
Not one word of apology for my hurt feelings and bad experience, only demands to understand and forgive hers...

She also said "If you would have given me the chance I would have posted what you sent as well". It's 12th of May now, and she still hasn't posted "what I sent as well"... What kind of "chance" does she expect to get? A year or two, perhaps?

She also said that she had sent my package "over three weeks ago" - she said this on April 9th, 3 weeks after Easter... I wonder how long she calculated a package from USA takes time to travel to Sweden... it's usually 2-4 weeks. It's quite possible that the package was still traveling from USA to Sweden. Considering that it has been all silent from the post office, I doubt it is coming...

She said she's going to send me another, and I told her not to. I hope she respected that wish of mine, even though I got the impression from the mails that she might just send me a package just to spite my wish... I really don't want to have anything to do with the person.

Do you think I painted her as a monster in this blog entry, like she says? Or as a bad swapper, like I say?

Added 23/3-20 - 12 years later and still, every year, when I see an Easter basket, I remember her and I hate her.

Script Frenzy?

I'm mad. I know nothing about writing scripts. But - it's writing.

I haven't been just sitting my hands crossed...

It has been a lot of that too... potatoeing in the couch staring at the telly and feeling BAAAAAAAAAAAAD...

I finished the three easter baskets.

I have also made some easter decorations for my own home, four filet crochet eggs to be hanged from the window and some crocheted and embroidered 3-D eggs - to be placed in the grass, on the table, in a bowl or hanged from easter twigs... I don't know yet.

I have been knitting hubby's woolly and there's only arms left to be done. Yay!

I have been crocheting my big tablecloth... It's rather boring and surprisingly thread eating, but it's going to be really nice :-)

I have ripped the scarf I knitted in Colinette's Giotto Monet and crocheted a new shawl, with Lovers' knot. It's very luscious and sexy but my husband says it looks like a fish net made of old rags bleached in sun and rain... the colors look like they are washed away... And he's right, I'm afraid... But it's still lovely LOL
(The basket in the last picture is made of Giotto Monet... so you see the colors are a bit wishy-washy ;-))

Still sick...

I'm convinced we have mold in our house... I so wish we get an apartment on the North side of the town... Södertälje is a lovely place, but this house is horrible and it's too far away from my sisters.

Now, what has been happening?
Because I'm sick I haven't been doing much. Just preparing the easter baskets and knitting my hubby's woolly.
I haven't been out buying some new fabric for the pillows.
Tomorrow is the craft convention at Sollentuna, but I'm sick, so I don't think I'm going. Besides, I don't have much money and I'd like to be able to buy things there. We'll see...
Easter is coming and I'd love to make things for home, but... Uh. I'm feeling lazy and rather uninspired.
Except that I have been playing around at COLOURlovers... addictive place that one.

Today's internet round

starts with Craftzine and the Matryoshka dolls

I don't think the pattern takes kindly to be enlarged that way... I don't think Happy Zombie's doll is comfy and huggable. But what do I know. I haven't hold her. My hubby got an IKEA polar bear to Yule present and IT IS huggable... I don't hug stuffed animals, but this polar bear... I noticed after a while that I had been sitting on the sofa just squeezing the bear for a long time. So perhaps Zombie's Matryoshka is just as huggable.

But Aimee Ray's felt nesting dolls are... WOW! I love the fact that she has made them really nesting... fitting into each other. Now... one could make a series of easter eggs nesting into each other and hide something in every layer.

Nevertheless, Zombie refers to Aimee Ray's "childhood heroes" embroidery series.

I don't know who Bob Ross is and whether he was carrying a chipmunk in his pocket or not is of no interest to me. But I started thinking of MY childhood heroes... I don't think I had any... I loved Lasse Pöysti reading fairytales in a Finnish children's program. I loved watching Rolf Harris make art. I love watching ANYONE make art - especially origami was fascinating. Of course I loved Jacques Cousteau. :-)

I checked Youtube to see if there were any gems with Rolf Harris, and checked 'origami' as well, and found Eric Joisel. Amazing!

It would be nice to make embroidered heroes... I borrowed a book from my sister; Margaret Cusack's "Picture Your World in Appliqué". I'm really good with appliqué... but I don't quite know what to picture... It is interesting that I haven't even considered making my art in appliqué... *hmm*

What I am DOING is knitting things to Afghans.

P.S. I was blocked from "Go Make Something"... No explanations, no information, nothing... I got the message I was blocked when I tried to go there next time. A friend of mine has an account, and everything I ever posted is gone too... Now I'm sitting here and wondering why I'm Persona Non Grata... Have I offended Lisa somehow? Or what? Well... I suppose it's not a big loss. But it's very confusing.

I apologize for the scrappy translation, but you'll get it :-)

Yarn: You’ll need about 50 g (about 2 ounces) yarn – any yarn will do. Effect yarns give a nice fuzzy kitty :-)
You can also use several different yarns and make a striped cat.

Needles: 3,5-4 – according to the yarn you use.

Gauge – not important.

Other: You’ll need filling material too. And you will need a needle to put the cat together.

Size – (smaller) bigger

Body: Cast on (20) 30 sts. Knit garterstitch (44) 66 rows and cast off.
Head. Cast on (10) 15 sts. Knit garterstitch (44) 66 rows and cast off.
Tail: Cast on (6) 9 sts. Knit garterstitch (36) 56 rows and cast off.

Sew the cat together:
Sew the corners of the body piece into feet. (See graph).
Fill the body with fill and close the tummy.
Fold the head and sew into a “bag”. Sew the upper corners into ears (see graph)
Embroider eyes and nose, cut some strings of white or grey yarn into whiskers and fasten very carefully.
Fill the head, sew around the neck and tighten.
Sew the head to the body.
Roll the tail, close and fasten to the body. (See graph)

Afghans for Afghans

I was horrified by the fact that almost 1000 people - women, children, elderly, even men - have died in Afghanistan, because it is so cold. Hundreds have lost fingers and toes (and more...) to the Afghanistani winter. Houses and tents have been damaged, and the winter isn't over yet...

And I'll say: "Yes, THAT is a turkey... but YOU will make it with green, teal and blue, perhaps even variegated yarn; you won't give it wattles, you'll sew on two white strikes by eyes, two black beads as eyes and a bone-colored bead as beak... and THIS is a peacock. You can even sew on beading on the tail, if you like, and a few beads (or threads) as "crown".

Of course, you can find nice patterns for oblong things, like ties, scarves, bookmarks and runners, and adjust them to be the tail feathers (This would work beautifully - and here's a peacock feather bookmark... a little too much work for the result to my liking, but... These fans booksmarks would be perfect... This wouldn't be bad either... Or this. Can you see what a magnificent peacock tail the different strips of lacy "feathers" crocheted in blues, greens, purples and teals would make?)

You might know that I have been fighting with inspiration when it comes to my Imbolc alphabet blanket...
Yes, I have been making that for 4 years now... and I haven't come any further except that I know which images I'm going to put at which letters...

A couple of fridge magnets; earrings; a collection of hearts and a polymer clay heart made by his little sister.
There's two pics in this "mosaic" I'd like to talk about a little more...
The one in the middle, top, is an earring I found outside several years ago, and it is the heart of our "house angel". I made an angel when we moved here, 11 years ago, of old linen and other scraps. It had hair of wool, but moths have eaten it all up.
Then the collection of hearts... The two bigger white ones I got from my eldest sister. The brass one is from my hubby, bought from Carl Milles Museum. The grey one is not a heart, but a stone, lovely, round, smooth stone, smoothed by nature and time... Behind it is one of my favorite photos... it's a family photo from 1970 I think...

I do love my blog community too! Shai Coggins speaks about what you can do to "let it show". I just participated in One World One Heart "happening", so I have been visiting quite a lot of blogs and letting them know it too... But I'm going to be better with it.
Because people of my blog community are wonderfully generous, open, caring, loving, creative, inspiring, courageous, funny...

I know only a couple of the almost 70.000 people who have visited my blog since April 2006... Right now there's a visitor from Malta, Kuwait and Tunis here... (Hey, you, from Malta... my sisters are coming to Malta in about a month, do you have any suggestions on what to see, where to go and so?) I would very much like to know a little more about you :-)

Think what it would be like... on a hot summer day, you pick out the pretty soap box from your bag, take out the washcloth that is moist and cool after being in the freezer over-night... Think drying your neck with this... Mmmmm....
Or on a cold winter morning, you put the soap box with the washcloth in the micro for 10 seconds and have the warm box in your pocket to warm your cold fingers...

I put my name in forty hats and from one my name was picked. (YAY!!!) But going through the blogs and every time my name was NOT in the list of winners, it felt like I lost... and it just kept happening over and over again...

I have tried reminding me,
that getting things is not the "name of the game", and I have met many amazing women (and some men) I didn't even know existed before these two weeks,
that not winning is not the same as loosing,
that from dozens of people only one (or two, three, four... ;-)) can win - and there are more people who "loose" than "win" - so I'm not alone with this feeling,
that I already have more than I can storage,
that one more thing, how ever beautiful and amazing and desirable, is going to drown in the mess, and that's not fair for me, the thing or the creator of the thing,
that I need to make space for more stuff before I get more stuff,
that I am such a creative, artistic, fantastic woman I can create something as beautiful and amazing myself (though it's not the same as getting something beautiful and amazing I couldn't create even if I tried)
that I can buy me things and that's just as good, I might be poor, but I'm not THAT poor...

But it doesn't help. I still feel like I lost...
And I don't like the feeling at all.
One of the worst experiences in my life. Will not live through that again. So no more participating in draws, lotteries and such.

I love the giving though, so that I want to do next year too. Might even have some give-aways on my own :-)
