Finnish colourwork knitting patterns

Nanette from Knitting in Color was admiring the Finnish Korsnaes tapestry crochet woollies and I promised to put in some traditional patterns.
I love those swirly thingies, because they remind me of Cashmir shawls... Paisley is my favorite pattern :-)

Then some Karelian patterns, from Eastern Finland. These can be recognized from all over the area (Russian, Baltic, Finno-Ugric...)
The one on the top has two variations - you either use the one in the left or the one in the right and repeat. It also shows that changing the "background" color creates interesting effects.
In the rest, the pattern repeat is marked with red.

Reproduction of old Karelian mittens.
